I Promise, I'll Only Mention Cars Once

Today, I will not have more than one small note about cars, promise.  Otherwise it is onto Mars and cool nano tech!

First little bit will the about a neat carbon nano-tube technology.  Basically, a bunch of folks at CalTech figured out that if you array the carbon nano-tubes a certain way that you end up with a material that allows water droplets to sit on top of it....for an example check out the video below.

Truly some neat stuff.  Imagine lining ships with this stuff to make their drag due to viscous effects essentially go to zero.  Nice job you tech loving California hippies!

Now, for a strange twist there has been 2 neat stories being circulated regarding Mars.  Apparently, NASA is going to announce soon that they are beginning to research and accrue the necessary support to do a 1 way mission to Mars.  You might ask why would we just want to send people to colonize it, wouldn't we want to be able to bring them back.  Well actually it is much simpler to just send them one way, like magnitudes cheaper, and quite frankly it isn't like we are going to conscript people to go on the mission.
In other news from the Martian home world, turns out that dinky little rover is finding cool stuff out even while stand still.  Spirit, being one of the most successful things NASA has ever done, has found evidence of liquid water still moving about on Mars.  I guess after rampaging across the Martian surface for so long, the scientist finally decided to look down and dig in the dirt.  Unfortunately for the little rover, it's future isn't looking very good.  A long winter with it's solar panels not being in the idle position has many thinking that it simply won't wake up.

If that happens then I will raise a toast to the little guy who has brought up all kinds of conspiracies and cool information about the next frontier for man.

Finally, Tesla Motors might actually finally become a car company.  So for anyone who doesn't know, Tesla is a California based electric car company that originally took Lotus Elises and made them into high performance electric super cars.  Now they have opened their first real plant and are setting out to make a brand of electric cars that car go 300 miles per charge(yes the German's already have a non-production car that goes further) and doesn't make you feel bad for taking half a minute to reach 60.

Finally, I feel rather lacking for a good bit of classical engineering so instead I am going to leave you over the start of this Halloween weekend with one of the best costumes ever.

and as always, remember to keep the moment positive!

  1. Hey dude, this post is awesome. I love the whole mars situation, and those nano tubes could prove incredibly useful. It's only a matter of time until people coat their shoes with it and walk on water :p

  2. How many times can they change their mind about water on Mars? "There is no water on Mars." "There is ice on Mars", "There is liquid water on Mars". It is awesome if it is true though. 7

    I like the costume.

  7. My opinion on the whole mars thing is a bit off, but here we go. Government isn't disclosing all information and with that said, this could mean anything you can think of, alien lifeforms, water actually being on mars, etc.

  9. I kinda agree with xaltruismx.

I tend to believe conspiracy theories are just ridiculous in general but US government withholding information from the public it's not farfetched at all.

Still, I'm pretty sure there are no aliens on the red planet.
